The Show Must Go On

The Baudelaire orphans have faced a lot of misfortune in their lives, but the show must go on! Season 4 of A Series of Unfortunate Events is currently in production, and we’ve gathered all the information we could find about it. Here’s what we know so far.

The Show’s Resurrection

It’s been over a decade since we last saw the Baudelaire orphans on the big screen, and though the 2004 film adaptation of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events was met with mixed reviews, it didn’t deter Netflix from resurrecting the franchise. In 2017, the streaming giant released a new live-action series based on the popular book series, and though it took some liberties with Snicket’s original work, fans were thrilled to see the story come to life once again.

Now, two years later, Netflix is preparing to release season four of the show, and though we don’t know much about what’s in store, we’ve rounded up everything we know so far.

The Show’s New Home

After three seasons on Netflix, it was announced in January 2019 that A Series of Unfortunate Events would be moving to its new home on Hulu. The fourth and final season will consist of ten episodes, and will adapt books thirteen through fifteen of Lemony Snicket’s best-selling book series – The Slippery Slope, The Grim Grotto, and The Penultimate Peril.

While some fans may be disappointed by the news of the show’s move, it makes sense from a business standpoint. Hulu is jointly owned by Disney (which also owns ABC, another potential home for the show) and Comcast (which owns NBCUniversal, the studio that produces A Series of Unfortunate Events). With the show’s move to Hulu, all episodes will be available to stream on one platform – making it easier for viewers to catch up before the final season premieres.

Production on the fourth season is set to begin in February 2019, with a release date sometime in 2020. Neil Patrick Harris will return as Count Olaf, as well as Louis Hynes as Klaus Baudelaire, Malina Weissman as Violet Baudelaire, Presley Smith as Sunny Baudelaire, K. Todd Freeman as Mr. Poe, Matty Cardarople as JAKE Weber Jr., Usman Ally as Geraldine Julienne,Creator Mark Hudis and Director Barry Sonnenfeld will also return for the final season.

The Cast

The cast for the fourth season of Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events has been announced, and it includes some familiar faces and some new ones. Neil Patrick Harris will return as the dastardly Count Olaf, as will Patrick Warburton as Lemony Snicket. New to the cast are Tony Hale as Jerome Squalor and Lucy Punch as Esmé Squalor.

The New Additions

Netflix’s adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events was always going to be a good time. The books, written by Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler), are darkly comic, irreverent, and always keeping you guessing. The show, starring Neil Patrick Harris as the dastardly Count Olaf, has taken those core components and added its own Lynchian twist. Season 3 ended on a cliffhanger that left us all eager for more.

Now that we know a fourth season is coming our way, let’s take a look at what we know so far.

The New Additions
As with any good TV adaptation, the show has made some changes to the source material. Some of these are small tweaks, like adding gags for the audience, while others are more significant alterations that change the course of the story.

One of the biggest changes comes in the form of two new characters: Kit Snicket (played by Louis Hynes) and Isadora Quagmire (played by Malina Weissman). In the books, Kit is a boy and Isadora is a girl, but on the show they are played by the opposite genders. It’s not clear yet how this will affect their roles in the story.

Another new character is Jerome Squalor (played by Nathan Fillion), who will be introduced in season 4. In the books, Jerome is Esmé’s husband and an important member of VFD. It will be interesting to see how his character is adapted for the show.

The Returning Characters

The series will star Neil Patrick Harris as the dastardly Count Olaf, Malina Weissman as Violet Baudelaire, Louis Hynes as Klaus Baudelaire, and Presley Smith as Sunny Baudelaire. These four actors have been with the show since it first aired on Netflix in 2017 and are sure to provide viewers with more of the same great performances that they have come to expect from the series.

Supporting them will be K. Todd Freeman as Mr. Poe, the bank manager who always seems to be one step behind Olaf’s schemes;)|
Hannah Burke-Gaffney as Isadora Quagmire, one of the triplets who was separated from her siblings after their parents died in a fire;){
Usman Ally as Arthur Poe, Mr. Poe’s Cousin who is an attorney at Mulgumby and Associates;)&
MattyCardarople as Jerome Squalor, Esmé’s husband who is an entirely unfashionable man;(^
Sara Rue as Esmé Squalor, Jerome’s fashionable wife who is always on the lookout for the next ‘it’ thing;)*,
and Cobie Smulders as Jacquelyn de Grouchy, a Reporter for The Daily Punctilio who seems to always be one step ahead of Olaf.

The Plot

The fourth season of A Series of Unfortunate Events is set to premiere on Netflix on January 1, 2019. The season will adapt books ten through thirteen of Lemony Snicket’s book series of the same name, known as The Slippery Slope, The Grim Grotto, The Penultimate Peril, and The End.

The New Mysteries

In the final season of A Series of Unfortunate Events, it is up to the Baudelaire children to solve the mysteries surrounding their parents’ deaths and VFD. The new season will bring new challenges and new mysteries for the Baudelaires to solve. There are still many unanswered questions from the previous seasons, and it is up to the Baudelaires to find the answers.

What we know so far is that the new season will focus on the mystery of VFD. The Baudelaires will travel to different parts of the world in order to find out more about VFD and its involvement in their parents’ deaths. Additionally, they will encounter new enemies and allies along the way. It is sure to be an exciting season full of twists and turns.

The Resolutions to Season 3’s Cliffhangers

As frustrating as it is that we still don’t have a release date for Season 4 of A Series of Unfortunate Events, we can at least take comfort in the fact that filming wrapped up in October 2018. So, even though we don’t know when we’ll see the next batch of episodes, we do know that they’re on the way.

And now that production is complete, we also have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the new season. Here’s everything we know so far about A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 4.

-The first and most obvious question on everyone’s mind is: when willSeason 4 premiere? Unfortunately, Netflix has been frustratingly tight-lipped about the show’s return. All we know for sure is that it won’t be dropping in 2018… which leaves us feeling rather impatient.

-We do have some idea about when to expect the new season, though. In September 2018, it was revealed that production on Season 4 wrapped up in October.

-While speaking to Collider, Perretti offered a few hints about what fans can expect from the upcoming season. “Our world opens up a little bit more,” she said. “The third season was very claustrophobic on purpose, because the Baudelaires were going through this very intense emotional journey and they were being pursued so relentlessly.”

-“In the fourth season, our world opens up and you learn a little bit more about some of these side characters,” Perretti continued. “You expand the world without leaving the core of what the show is, which is really these three orphans on this journey.”

The Release Date

A Series of Unfortunate Events released its third season on January 1st, 2019, and with it came the promise of more seasons to come. We don’t yet know when season 4 will premiere, but we do know that it has already been filmed and that it will likely be released sometime in 2020.

The Long Wait

After what feels like forever, we finally have a release date for the fourth season of A Series of Unfortunate Events. The bad news is that we have to wait until 2019. The good news is that it will be worth the wait!

So far, we know that the season will consist of 10 episodes and will adapt books 10-13 of Lemony Snicket’s series – The Slippery Slope, The Grim Grotto, Thepenultimate Peril and The End.

The cast and crew have been working hard on the new season and we can’t wait to see what they’ve been up to. In the meantime, here’s everything we know so far about A Series of Unfortunate Events season 4.
